Greek Recruitment
Greek 101
Individuals interested in participating in Greek recruitment must attend (In Person) Greek 101 at the start of each recruitment period.
GREEK 101 for formal Fall Recruitment will take place Monday, September 16th, 2024 in Eben Holden Main.
Fraternities- 6:00PM
Sororities- 7:00 PM
If you are not able to make it to Greek 101 due to a valid excuse (e.g. class conflict) please email Greek Advisor Riley Sullivan, rsullivan@stlawu.edu to discuss a makeup session. This must be done BEFORE Greek 101.
To attend any and all recruitment events (for fraternities or sororities), you must meet the criteria outlined below:
- Minimum GPA of 2.5
- Sophomore class standing (defined as having completed a full year at St. Lawrence and having 9 course credits or more) or, if a transfer student, must have completed at least one full semester on campus
- Judicial & Safety Check- you must be in good judicial standing, defined as:
- You may not be on Disciplinary Probation
- If you have a judicial history, you must be violation-free for one full semester before being considered
- All assigned judicial sanctions must be completed prior to recruitment
- Severity of violations and number of violations will be taken into account during judicial check; students deemed to have committed a serious violation or several smaller violations may not be eligible to participate in recruitment
- All decisions regarding a pass/fail of the judicial & safety check go through the Dean's office and are final
Greek Petition Process
If you do not meet the requirements outlined above you may petition to participate in recruitment under the following circumstances only:
- You have a 2.45 GPA or higher (with sophomore class standing and 9 credits or greater)
- You have at least 8 credits (with sophomore class standing) and your GPA is a 2.5 or greater
The last day to submit your petition request will be on Friday, September 13, 2024 at 12:00PM. We cannot accept late petitions.
Form to Petition to Participate in Greek Recruitment : https://stlawu.presence.io/form/petition-to-participate-in-fraternity-sorority-recruitment
Note that a petition is not a guarantee that you will be able to go through recruitment. Rather, we will review your case and make a decision regarding whether or not you will be able to participate. We will not consider petitions in advance and only review cases immediately preceding recruitment periods to ensure we have the most accurate and up-to-date information when considering your case. We will not consider petitions for students who have fewer than 8 credits or a GPA below 2.45.
Registering for Recruitment
All students must register to participate in Greek Recruitment. Due to the amount of time it takes to check GPAs and judicial histories for all registrants, we cannot review late registrations. Before registering, please check to be sure you meet the eligibility requirements. You must also have attended Greek 101.
Recruitment Schedules
You may only attend events if you 1) meet the criteria, 2) have attended Greek 101, and 3) are on a list of individuals approved to attend events. Names will be checked at the door.
Schedules will be sent directly to eligible, registered individuals.

Panhellenic Recruitment for Sororities
Fall Recruitment- The Panhellenic Council coordinates a formal fall recruitment process beginning in September that will assist you in learning about the four Greek organizations and what it means to be Greek at SLU.
Spring Recruitment- Panhellenic recruitment is less formal in the spring, however the eligibility requirements outlined at the top of this page still apply. Please note that only sororities who have not met Total (sororities who have spaces in their organization after fall recruitment) will participate in spring recruitment. Not all sororities will hold a spring recruitment period.
The steps that eligible women must take to participate in fall or spring sorority recruitment are listed below:
- Register for recruitment- see Registration above. Note that there are different forms for formal (fall) recruitment and informal (spring) recruitment.
- Attend Greek 101. This event is mandatory if you wish to participate in recruitment. If you cannot attend, you must contact one of the Panhellenic Recruitment Chairs (email: slugreeks@gmail.com) and make arrangements for a makeup session.
- Pass academic & judicial checks- After you register your name will be checked against academic and judicial records. If you are found to not meet the requirements listed above under "eligible to participate" you will not be able to continue on in the recruitment process. We ask that you please be open and honest about any potential GPA or judicial issues so that we can address these early on.
- Attend as many sorority events as possible. For fall recruitment only, absences must be excused. Submit any absences to slugreeks@gmail.com
- Fill out a MRABA (bid card) in the fall, or a COB form in the spring
Fraternity Recruitment
The fraternities do a more informal recruitment structure than the sororities.
The steps that eligible men must take to participate in either fall or spring fraternity recruitment are:
- Register for recruitment (see details under Registration, above)
- Attend Greek 101 (see date/time at the top of this page). If you cannot attend you must contact the fraternity recruitment chairs to arrange a make up session.
- Pass academic & judicial checks (2.5 GPA, sophomore class standing with at least 9 credits, pass judicial check as outlined at the top of this page).
- Attend your scheduled events (see schedule sent to eligible participants). If you do not attend events, the fraternity members will not be able to consider you during voting.
- Fill out an application for the fraternity/fraternities you wish to join, along with a bid card. Your APPLICATION is reviewed by the fraternity to indicate that you are interested in their organization and they should consider you. Your BID CARD is confidential and goes to the Greek advisor to formally indicate to the University that you wish to receive a bid. Both forms will be completely digital in 2020 and will be sent to eligible participants.
